There is lots of history associated with Bethel Community Church and the community that surrounds it. Church has been held at Bethel for nearly 200 years now. Members and local Quakers operated an Underground Railroad Station to help southern runaway slaves prior to the Civil War. Bethel School was on the property for almost 100 years. The main part of the present building was built in 1850. After being a Methodist Church for 100 years, the current independent non-denominational church was established in 1939. The Ladies Aid was organized in 1956 and is still an ongoing ministry of the church today. Bethel Church and Cemetery were listed in the National Register of Historical Places in 1995. Logan Township has owned and operated Bethel Cemetery since 1921.
Through the years the members adopted the title of a 1920’s hymn written by Rev. W. C. Poole, The Church By the Side of the Road, as part of our moto here. And we want you to know that All are welcome at “The Church By the Side of the Road”.
Since the first church service held on the property in 1825, Bethel Community Church has been helping spread God's good news here in our community and throughout the world. At BCC, we have a simple hope: to see people come to KNOW Jesus Christ as their personal Savior, to GROW in their Christian faith and to GO make disciples. And we pray that God will continue to use our congregation to do just that. Whether you've been attending church for years or haven't stepped into a sanctuary in decades, we hope you'll come and join us.
When you come to join us for the first time, one of our greeters will be glad to help you become acquainted with the building and make you comfortable.
During the service, you'll hear our faith expressed in the songs we sing, through the prayers we offer up and through our pastor's preaching. All parts of our service are grounded in the Bible, which we are committed to upholding.
After the service, join us for a short time of fellowship to give us a chance to get to know each other. Say hello to our pastors and anyone else you see. We'd all love to hear your story and share ours with you.
No matter what your Christian background is (or isn't), we hope you'll join us. Because all are welcome at “the church by the side of the road”. Our service starts at 9:30 a.m. every Sunday.
